Chicago’s Urban Prep Academy (an all-male charter school) just pulled a THREE-PEAT announcing that ALL of their graduating seniors have been accepted into four-year colleges! Get the deets on this amazing place inside…..
Some folks have no faith in the educational system, but Urban Prep Academy on Chicago’s south side must be doing something right.   Once again, 100% of its 2012 graduating seniors are heading off to college in the fall. And by the way, this school is the only all-Black, all-male public prep school in Chicago!
This is the third year in a row that the school has achieved the feat thanks to hard working teachers and parents and of course…the amazing students.
The school started with kids whose futures had been left for dead by their public schools: Only four percent of theschool’s incoming freshmen were reading at grade level when they arrived on campus.
Urban Prep CEO Tim King says the school is so successful because, “We devote time and energy to those students so that they understand they can do well and they can have success if they modify their behavior.”
And don’t assume this is just a fluke, because 83 percent of Urban Prep’s 2010 graduating class re-enrolled for a second year of college.  Now this is good ish.

this is some good news coming out of Chicago right now.

yassss! public educational system don’t care about black kids, but when black kids have folk who care about em they thrive just like any other child would. :)

And just to reference my recent trip to Chicago, there are some really awesome things in terms of activism going on in that city, especially in regards to addressing homelessness and poverty. It’s uplifting.

The first democratically elected government the CIA overthrew was actually Iran’s in 1953 through Operation Ajax. Democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadiq and his National Front Party planned on nationalizing the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (now known as BP). To protect British interests, the CIA and MI6 overthrew Mossadiq, reinstalled the Shah, and set up a secret police known as SAVAK. Until the Iranian Revolution in 1979, the Shah and SAVAK killed over 20,000 Iranians.

True story.
